Welcome to the Namibian Amateur Radio Centre
Club News:
Congratulations on passing the Amateur Radio Examination!
The very first RAE according to the recommendations ECC (05) 06 in Africa has passed successfully on the 22.11.2011. We are pleased to welcome three new Radio Amateurs in Namibia: Nantwin Kuhn, Gundolf Kuhn and Carsten Antoni. After having finished the application of the licences we will publish the call signs.
Amateur Radio was born in the beginning of the last century. Since that time, Radio Amateurs always have been pioneers in communication technologies. They are fascinated in transmitting pictures, voice, morse code or digital data.
We want to inspire young people and give the possibility to get a callsign, so that Amateur Radio can be actively operated in future as it was in the past. NAM-ARC members feel constratined to this chellange.

Nico Huysamen silent key
It is with deep sadness that we have to report the passing of Nico Huysamen, V51NH. Nico became a silent key on Sunday, the 13th November 2011 after a long illness.
When he was a young man, Nico had been dedicated to our hobby. At that time he was living in Cape Town and owned the call sign ZS1NH. In the beginning of the 70s, he and his family moved to Namibia where he operated as ZS3NH. All the years he has been a real Amateur Radio enthusiast with special focus on digital modes. Actually he was the very first Radio Amateur who set up a packet mailbox an HF in Windhoek. RTTY was also one of his favourites. Despite his bad health, he took part in out fox hunt project a year ago.
Nico was an open and honest man who always stood by his opinion. He was a real 'Gentleman of the air'. We will remember him as a fine man with true Ham Spirit. He will be missed in our community.
Our thoughts are with Myrna, and his family, at this difficult time.
International Lighthouse and Lightship Event 2011
On August 20st/21nd 2010, the lighthouse in Swakopmund was again reactivated for the annual "International Lighthouse- and Lightshipevent".
This year Karl-Heinz (V51KH), Ernst (V51CD) with XYL Janette, Maxi (V51MI), Gundolf und Nantwin from the Radio Amateur Course and Wolfgang (V51WG) have been travelling the 370km from Windhoek. In the last weeks there had been cold and foggy weather in Swakopmund, but at our arrival we were greeted by the finest sunshine, which is not common at this time of the year.
On the 2nd of August an electronic working group has started at the German school DHPS. Some fox-hunt-receivers for 80m are being built and optimised there.
We welcome four technical interested newcomers in our club. There is a lively interest in building and using electronics and according to this the group is in a good mood.
Fieldday with the Amateur Radio Course 2011
The extra mural amateur radioing on excursion for a weekend on a farm (10 -12 June 2011)
Okay, “extra mural for amateur radioing” may sound a little boring but this by far is not the case. Since 2011 this extra mural is in existence. One learns how a radio set operates and is operated, the technique behind it all and finally how to build a radio of one’s own. Read more...
Here please find more pictures of our weekend.
On May 18th, 2011, the new Communications Act 8 has come into force, wherein, amongst others, the Amateur Radio Act is positioned.
A lot of, destructive information about this law has been spread which lead to some confusion. To find some clarity we set up this article.
With the new law nothing in particular has changed for the Namibian Radio Amateurs.
Here are the news:
· The Namibian Communications Commission NCC was replaced by the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia CRAN.
· The old „Radio Regulations" stay valid in their entity until the new „Radio Regulations (Draft 3)" have come into force.
· Existing licences stay valid until the change of licence (see below) is completed.
· The licence fee will not or only slightly be changed.
· We got the official right now to use the international amateur frequency bands (ITU standard)
· Guest licences are still being issued. The time required for processing can however take up to 30 calendar days.
· There are still Radio Amateur Examinations to be passed in order to get a new licence.
Our hobby will still give us a lot of pleasure.
Nevertheless we want to point out the following important facts:
· The validation of a licence only continues to be granted as long as every radio amateur has one-off filled in the form "4714-Gen N130 Form E" and handed it in at CRAN until June 16th, 2011. Otherwise the licence and the callsign will expire!
· To apply for new amateur radio licences or guest licenses there is a new form:"4714-Gen N131 Form C".
· For more detailed information concerning the Communications Act 8, please refer to "Extractions of the new Act".
In case of any further questions, please feel free to contact the presidents of the two Amateur Radio Clubs NAM-ARC and NARL, who are at your disposal for queries in this matter.

Our WSPR-Beacon is back on the air! Strong continuous winds this year have damaged the fibre glass rod of our antenna directly above the mounting point. Victor (V51V) has repaired this problem on the 13th of November 2010 and has accessorily wired the antenna with four ropes. Since then we regularily have been receiving reports from all over the world again.
Thank you Victor.
The monthly Club Meetings at Bauernstube will be held every first Thursday at 18:30 local time in future.
After 13 long years we wanted to offer an Amateur Radio Course again in Namibia. OM Wolfgang (V51WG) agreed to carry for the technical field. OM Karl-Heinz (V51KH) could be convinced to teach Operational Techniques and Rules and Regulations.
It was our aim to achieve the CEPT-Standards ECC Recommendation (05)06 for V50-Licence Class B and TR61/02 (HAREC) for the V51-Licence Class A.
The main structure for the technical part we got from the German course of Eckhart Moltrecht (DJ4AUF). Read more...
