International Lighthouse and Lightfire Event in Namibia

On the 21st and 22nd of August we are activating the lighthouse in Swakopmund on shortwave, 2m and EchoLink. The following modes can be worked: SSB, FM, WSPR, PSK32, EchoLink, RTTY, SSTV and JT65.

All Radio Amateurs and technically interested people are kindly invited.

Since October 16th 2009 our beacon has been working without any problems in the central city of Windhoek. We have received reports from all over the world, for example from Ernie (NH7L) who is located exactly on the other side of the earth in Honolulu. It is amazing that a 10 MHz signal with 1Watt transmitting power at a vertical broadband rotund emitter with approximately -4,5dBi gain can regularly bridge a distance of 19439km. Read more >

Digital filtering on 80m, further development of the squelch for short wave, and first experiences with NVIS-antenna technique.

Digital filtering of a short wave signal:In order to reduce the noise component, and to achieve a better quality of reading both on 2m and on EchoLink, we were looking for a possibility to filter the 80m AF-signal digitally. We have decided in favour of a finished product, and Victor (V51V) has donated the language extractor LINGUA for this purpose. Read more >
